Behind the poster
About Mercury.
Mercury is the smallest planet and the closest to the Sun, only a little wider than our Moon. It races around the Sun in 88 Earth days, faster than any other planet, but it turns so slowly that one full day, from one sunrise to the next, lasts 176 Earth days. That is the line on the poster: a single day on Mercury lasts two of its years.
With almost no air to hold heat, its surface swings from about 430 °C (800 °F) in daylight to about minus 180 °C (minus 290 °F) at night. Even so, ice survives in craters near its poles that never see the Sun. NASA’s MESSENGER spacecraft, which orbited Mercury from 2011 to 2015, found the evidence for it.
Mercury never strays far from the Sun in our sky. Look for it low in the west just after sunset, or low in the east just before sunrise, a few weeks at a time.

Today
The Date Print
Want your own date?
Every date has its own arrangement. This is today’s.
Which format should I pick?
Framed comes ready to hang, with the frame matched to the artwork. Frameless is a premium matte print for your own frame. Digital download is a high-resolution file you print yourself. Whichever format you choose, we recommend the 12×18 size.
Sizes and colors
Four sizes: 8×10, 11×14, 12×18 and 16×20 inches. Two looks: black (a deep night sky) or white (a clean, light sheet). On framed pieces the frame matches the artwork.
Collecting more than one?
Every poster in the series shares the same layout and lettering, so any two or more hang together as a set. Choose the same size and color for each and they line up on the wall. See all nine worlds.
